Meet the Hurricane Hunter Fleet at Chennault International Airport

Chennault International Airport will host the Hurricane Awareness Tour in Lake Charles on Wednesday, May 6, offering the public a rare opportunity to view some of the most advanced storm-tracking aircraft in operation today. From 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (with gates closing at 3:00 p.m.), visitors will be able to tour a lineup of research and military aircraft used to monitor and forecast hurricanes.

These aircraft play a critical role in gathering real-time data that improves storm tracking, forecasting accuracy, and emergency preparedness across the Gulf Coast and beyond.

A Unique Opportunity to See Hurricane Hunter Aircraft Up Close

The Hurricane Awareness Tour brings together multiple aircraft from both the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the U.S. Air Force Reserve. While these aircraft are typically deployed in active storm conditions, this event provides a controlled, educational environment where the public can see them up close and learn more about their missions.
